We Win Through Participation
“I shall participate, I shall contribute, and in so doing, I will be the gainer.”
Each of us has a unique virtue and grace assigned to us by God that gives expression to His presence in the earth. We have an inimitable set of skills that comprise our imprint on the world designed to answer a specific need or call in the earth. These talents and virtues were given to us to actively engage them in service to our families, our communities, and the spread of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
We all win when everyone actively participates collaboratively functioning as a single unit to accomplish the mission. A common quote often attributed to Gestalt psychology theorists is “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts” which intimates that we are far more effective functioning collaboratively rather than the sum total of our individual efforts. Simply put we can accomplish far more working together than we can apart from each other.
Can you imagine a football game where players elected to ride the bench and watch the star players do all of the work? Can you imagine a football game where the quarterback decided he preferred to be the running back? The end result would be a diminished game with essential components missing and the overall objective of the game not realized. When we fail to participate the overall mission of the Body of Christ is missing a vital component and others who are actively engaged have to make up a deficit we are designed to supply.
God wants you in the game! In order to be in the game, however, it is imperative that you show up for it. No matter how talented an individual sportsperson may be, they will never win a single game if they don’t show up to play. In order to participate you must show up! This is true in every context of life whether it be sports, legal matters, or relationships. Your presence is required in order to successfully participate in any endeavor.
The same is true in the context of the work of the ministry. It’s great to appreciate those who are doing the work, but actively becoming involved in sharing the load of the work breeds the synergistic economies of scale that is the product of increased participation. In addition to sharing the weight of the work through participation and providing much needed support to those laboring the objective of the mission is actualized and men and women come to experience Christ because of your unique grace. We all win through participation!
It is also important that we understand that in order to participate effectively we must do so according to the measure of faith given to us and by virtue of the grace distinctly allotted to us. God has specifically equipped us with abilities and experiences to accomplish the work of the mission. Some roles will have high visibility while others are more background oriented. The value of our role is rooted in our participation in the divine purpose of God rather than the sensory value ascribed by human standards. Each role, no matter how different, is equally critical to the success of the mission.
I want you to boldly declare that through participation #WeWIN! Declare that you actively contribute to accomplishing the mission of our God by cooperating with your brothers and sisters in Christ to fulfill His purposes in the earth! Lastly, recognize that when #WeWIN collectively it trickles down to our individual contexts allowing us to overcome every obstacle and challenge that we face because we are in service to the purposes of God!
Get in the game and let’s go for the win!
